Positions available in YBCA Student Cultural Ambassador Program

Students interested should contact Prof. Josh Singer

Student Cultural Ambassador, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts
We are currently seeking a volunteer undergraduate student to represent Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on-campus during the 2010/11 year. One year commitment.
Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (YBCA) is a contemporary multidisciplinary arts center anchoring the Yerba Buena Gardens in the downtown San Francisco arts district. We are a space committed to innovation in our practices, exceptional diversity in our range of work, and the engagement of audiences with art that speaks to the ideas and issues of the contemporary world. In the coming year, we hope to engage Bay Area college audiences even further with the help of on-campus Student Cultural Ambassadors. If you're a creative, motivated college student with a passion for the arts and/or community outreach, this is an incredible opportunity for you!
As a Student Cultural Ambassador, you'll be working to connect your student body with all of the exciting programming available. Each quarter, you'll be meeting with YBCA staff and other Bay Area student Ambassadors to decide what's hot at YBCA for the college crowd. From there, you will help plan events and publicize programs on your campus for students and teachers.
In return for all of your dedicated work, you'll have access to all of YBCA's groundbreaking shows as well as to all of the behind-the-scenes action that makes YBCA a thrilling place to be. In addition, you'll gain valuable experience learning how a center for the arts works, developing community engagement skills around issues in the arts, and working closely with curators, fundraising professionals, and publicity staff.
Principal Responsibilities
  • Attend selected YBCA exhibits, functions and events as Student Cultural Ambassador.
  • Develop and implement outreach tactics to engage students and teachers with YBCA programs within acceptable college guidelines
  • Communicate regularly with YBCA staff regarding campus activities and outcomes
  • Actively promote and sell YBCA memberships throughout the year
  • Participate in the Student Cultural Ambassador program evaluation, including finding new Ambassadors once the one year term is complete.
Minimum Requirements
  • Enrollment in a Bay Area college degree program
  • Ability to attend quarterly meetings at YBCA
  • Commitment to representing YBCA in a professional manner
If you're interested, please send a resume and letter indicating which school you currently attend, your resume and why you would like to participate in the Student Cultural Ambassador program at YBCA to Gemma Juan-Simo (Public Relations & Marketing Intern) at gjuan-simo@ybca.org
Two students from each local college/university will be chosen to participate. Deadline for applicants is on a rolling basis through early fall.
