AIGA | Justified Competition: 2012 Selections

AIGA’s “Justified” competition recognizes case studies that demonstrate the value of design in a clear, compelling and accessible way. Effective design will nearly always reflect the powerful emotional draw of creativity, inspiration and simplicity; and yet today, for design to be truly effective, it must also serve the client’s very specific needs.

Designers’ unique capacity for seeing problems from unexpected angles—as well as designers’ creativity and empathy with human experience—is in high demand. AIGA believes that a competition built around the case study format, rather than one built around the selection of artifacts, offers a more effective means of revealing how designers have approached clients’ problems, with all of the attendant constraints. With this in mind, the 2012 “Justified” competition honors 18 exemplary case studies of design solutions, each of which successfully demonstrate the value of design.

As you already know, it appears that this Spring will be very active in matters of expressing social issues. Both, students and professionals have been invited to our open, free, and international poster competition on the theme "Occupy: What's Next?".

We are not looking for protests, but we are interested in gathering visual designs that address central issues, express your own concerns and suggest solutions to societal ills and disconnects.

We have extended the deadline to May 31, 2012

111 Minna Gallery event - call for submissions

Call for Submissions - Due Friday November 11th

Nexus ArtReach is organizing a one-night exhibition event at the 111 Minna Gallery that will happen on November 23, the day before Thanksgiving. The deadline for submissions for the show is Nov. 11, which is Friday and they are still looking for art - namely from college/university students, recent graduates, or community-based artists. The theme of the event is "Have Your Say," and is supposed to be a platform for artists to share what's on their minds regarding today's local, national, or global affairs.

Fwd: Design Competition to Support Wounded Soldiers

Hello AIGA student groups.  My name is Mike Norton and I run a non-profit called Fashion Has Heart.  We provide rehabilitation support for wounded Soldiers through our partnership with the Mary Free Bed Wounded Warrior Traumatic Brain Injury Project. Together we have created an online design competition called HeARTContest.com.  Our goal is to inspire the artistic and creative community to help support our wounded warriors.   HeartContest is an art and design competiton inspired by those who made sacrifices so that we can all continue to express our creativity however we choose –and who must now live with the ailments of their heroic military service. We are currently looking for designers to participate in our heartcontest competition.  All HeartContest proceeds will go toward improving their lives. AIGA San Francisco 2011 Enrichment Scholarship

The Enrichment Scholarship was created by AIGA San Francisco to enhance the quality and diversity of design education. Winners will receive a $500 scholarship which may be used to underwrite the cost of their design education or to pay for a supplemental program, such as attending a design conference or participating in a class or workshop. In addition, the work from the scholarship winners will be featured on the AIGA San Francisco website.

The Enrichment Scholarship, for graphic design, was created by AIGA San Francisco to enhance the quality and diversity of design education. Winners will receive a scholarship which may be used to underwrite the cost of their design education. In addition, the work from the scholarship winners will be featured on the AIGA San Francisco website.

The Enrichment Scholarship award is based on the overall excellence of the student’s work and his/her strong academic achievement. Applicants are chosen by their respective schools and will then be reviewed by the 2010 Enrichment Scholarship Judging Committee. In addition, one student from the overall group of winners will be chosen for Rick Tharp Scholarship. The final awards are subject to review and approval by AIGA SF’s Board of Directors.
